Trinity's James Quick Will Be A Cardinal

James-quick-17

Louisville continues to use their momentum from winning the Sugar Bowl over Florida to pick up elite recruits. Five-star receiver James Quick picked the Cardinals over the Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Yesterday Louisville picked up 4-star defensive tackle De'Asian Richardson, who was committed to West Virginia.

Quick, who grew up a Louisville Cardinals fan, is considered the second-best wide receiver by Scout.com and the 98th-best player in the 2013 class by ESPN. He had offers from some of the top Division I schools in the country including Oregon, Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama and South Carolina.

The 6'1" receiver was named Kentucky's Mr. Football after a fantastic senior season at Trinity High School in Louisville, Ky.. He had 1,416 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns on 85 catches.

Quick, who is also a track and basketball star, had 4,209 receiving yards and 52 touchdowns in his four-year career at Trinity, according to 247Sports.

ESPN says of Quick (subscription required) :

Quick has a chance to be very good not only as a receiver, but also as a return man. He has a good size and speed combination. He's faster than most on the field, but maybe does not have elite speed. Still, he is extremely quick.

Quick is Louisville's 13th commit for the 2013 class and their second wide receiver commit. He is also their first 5-star commit for the class. He will get an opportunity to catch passes from Teddy Bridgewater, who will be at the top of the list for the Heisman Trophy next season.

Louisville will have several of their receivers back, but Quick is already ready to play college football physically and should be able to get plenty of playing time. He also has enough speed to return kicks or punts.

Things have changed for Louisville, the time of signing 2-star recruits are over. Head coach Charlie Strong should have no problem getting elite players to want to play around his already talented team.

Louisville is a national contender now. When analyst talk about the best football programs in the nation, they will have to put the Cardinals on their list.
